About
My images explore cultural construction, existence, and identity as fluid and ever-changing. I question assumptions around the authenticity of any projected identity on the basis that 'reality' is defined simply through subjective interpretation in any given moment.
Through my creative practice, I attempt to challenge the assumed ‘reality’ of the photographic image by revealing its own construction. Rather than disguising that construction, I often allow the viewer to recognise how my work is put together. While much of my work appears digitally manipulated, most ‘special effects’ are achieved in-camera. Through revealing the photographic 'lie', I hope to create imagery that is closer to 'truth'.
Materiality is an important aspect of my work. Creating material objects from constructed imagery acknowledges the importance of the physical in this digital era, by bringing my ostensibly 'non-existent' subjects into some kind of tangible existence.
